Specials
Students attend PE, Media, Music or Art class. They learn responsibility in the hallways and enjoy these activities with the specials teachers.
Math
Our math program is based on the Common Core Learning Standards and the EveryDay math program. The theory behind this program is constructivism in which students build on previous mathematical knowledge and discover relationships among numbers as they explore with strategies and various manipulatives.
NOTE: It is very important that students become fluent in their math facts! We would encourage you to review math facts with your child regularly throughout the year. It is essential for their success in 4th grade and beyond.

Lunch/Recess
Read-Aloud Time
Coming in from recess, we all settle down and listen to a read-aloud. This is one of the most enjoyable parts of the day. We engage in regular questioning, predicting, inferring and commenting on important characters in our books. Some of the read-alouds we read may include 4th Grade Rats, The Invention of Hugo Cabret., and various books by Kate DiCamillo.
ELA
The Reading and Writing Workshop
During this part of the day, we start with a mini-lesson, with teacher modeling in many instances. The students get to choose their own independent reading books along with writing about what interests them within specific curricular units..
Activity Period
During this time, students have chorus, band or orchestra. The rest of the students remain in the classroom and work on projects from the day, educational games, their reading or writing, cursive handwriting or join in groups for added instruction.
Tablet Time
During the day there are various opportunities to use our Chromebooks. Students may practice math facts, spelling, or even take notes on the book that they are reading while also using the dictionary for unfamiliar words that they encounter.
Spelling
We are currently utilizing the Spelling Connections spelling program. Students can expect a word list once a week to work on, review and be tested on.
